Pre and Post Treatment Advice

To ensure the success of your treatment and the health of your skin, the following advice should be followed:

Before Treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure for two weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid using any acid or chemical based products on the area for 7 days before treatment (e.g. AHA’s, BHA’s, retinol etc).
  • Avoid peels, microdermabrasion, and waxing for 14 days prior to treatment.
  • Wait at least 2 weeks after Botox and 4 weeks after filler before having microneedling.

Immediately After Treatment:
  • Apply BeautyLab® 4D Hyaluronic Acid +B5 Serum as needed to help hydrate and cool the skin.
  • Avoid touching the face as this could spread bacteria to the skin before it has healed.
  • After treatment the skin may be a bit red and warm (similar to windburn), and may feel a little ‘tight’, but this typically subsides quickly.
  • Very occasionally, the skin may become a bit dry and flakey in the days immediately after treatment, but this can quickly and easily be remedied by using a good quality hyaluronic acid serum to rehydrate the skin (at The Rowan Tree we recommend and retail the BeautyLab® 4D Hyaluronic Acid +B5 Serum).
  • Although rare, when undertaking a new skin care regime, the skin may purge itself of impurities on the road to a healthy end-result. This may result in a localised break-out of blemishes, a temporary flare up of cold sores, and sometimes a temporary darkening of pigmentation spots. As each skin is unique, this decongesting phase can last for a variable amount of time, but is typically over within 4-6 weeks of starting a new regime.

Morning After:
  • The face can be cleansed using the BeautyLab® Micellar Cleansing Water with cotton pads.
  • Apply BeautyLab® 4D Hyaluronic Acid +B5 Serum as needed to help hydrate and cool the skin.

For 24 Hours:
  • SPF should not be used for the first 24 hours following treatment. Because of this, it is recommended to stay out of the sun during this time period.
  • After 24 hours SPF should be applied, and a minimum of SPF30 is recommended.
  • Avoid applying perfume or perfumed products to the treated area.
  • Avoid applying makeup. However, if you wish to apply makeup, 100% pure mineral makeup would be the best option.
  • Avoid exposing the treated area to extreme heat, e.g. saunas, steam rooms and Jacuzzis.
  • Avoid exercise and swimming.

For 48 Hours:
  • It is normal for the skin to remain slightly red for a few days after microneedling.
  • Avoid picking any peeling or flaking skin that may occur.
  • Avoid any exfoliation products or treatments, including Retinol, AHA’s, or BHA’s.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise.
  • Avoid hair removal (e.g. waxing, threading, electrolysis) or bleaching on the treated area.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Avoid applying self-tan.

For 1 Week:
  • Avoid having any other treatments on the area for at least one week after having a microneedling treatment.

For 1 Month:
  • Avoid direct sunlight (e.g. sunbathing).
  • Allow a minimum of 4 weeks between microneedling treatments.
